DOPPELDENK (doublethink) is a Leipzig-based artistic collective composed of Marcel Baer and Andreas Glauch.
They work with painting, light sculptures, installations and silk screen prints, and make reference to pop-cultural and political icons.

DOPPELDENK – Two Beliefs in One Mind
The concept of DOPPELDENK comes from George Orwell’s dystopian novel, “Nineteen Eighty-Four”, and examines the power of holding two contradicting beliefs in one mind simultaneously. Duo’s strategy is to unlock this idea from implying brain-washing, but to propel new and complex forms of thinking. Marcel and Andreas are also using term DOPPELDENK as a motto for their offensive body of work, which at
first sight creates a certain familiarity, but at second glance, appears more subversive. They use the suggestive power of mass cultural symbolism, which in its creation, is usually represented as pictograms or idealized characters.

DOPPELDENK’s Multilayered Universe
DOPPELDENK’s work is characterized by an uninhibited use of glaringly colourful icons from pop culture and subculture to create a disturbing intimacy that captures the viewer into their multilayered universe. Their thematic approach is characterized by capitalism, ecocide, war, terror, religion, mythology, loneliness, and technology, and the inherent ambiguity contained by these themes. Duo plays with shapes, color and symbols.
